It sucks that the pairing you ship doesn't get much attention, but seriously, just because people ship something you don't doesn't mean you're doing it right and everyone else is doing it wrong.

But on that note, can I just say that Charles and Erik's relationship never struck me as brotherly, even when I didn't ship them. I guess you can say they see each as brothers in the sense being mutants and fighting for a cause together, even with the different approaches, but I don't think that actually translates to a brotherly relationship. IDK, I ship them but I also see them as having a deep, complicated and platonic relationship, but brotherly, no.

Yeah. Deep bond of friendship, I could buy - brotherly, OP's just trying too hard.

Magneto does say "We are like brothers, you and I" to Charles.

TBH, I thought that might be a case of a writer trying to "repair" the tragic true love vibe.

SA
But maybe not.

tbh when I first saw the movie, I rolled my eyes at that line, because holy crap SO MANY incredibly homoerotic sets of dude-friends have this thing where it's almost like the writers realize how easy it is to ship em, so they throw in a line where one of them says they're Like Brothers to try and make a case for the notgay (Dean and Castiel, what is upppppp. Sirius and Remus had this too. The first Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes movie did it too. I could probably go on)

but then the second time I watched it I noticed right before then, when he's talking to ALL the mutants on the beach, he actually addresses them as "brothers and sisters", and then when he's holding Charles he says "we're brothers, you and I" and all of a sudden I realized they're clearly foreshadowing to Magneto calling his team the Mutant Brotherhood. /riveting tale chap
