(Anonymous) 2007-07-04 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)Don't compare it to music piracy in an effort to make it seem "not that bad." And as for those artists saying, "Well I don't mind when someone steals my work!" Do you think that every damn artist on the internet feels the same way as you? I've talked to plenty about the issue. Some say they don't care, some are deeply hurt by fanart theft. Don't think that your one opinion on the matter accounts for the opinion of EVERY artist or that it should, even. That's like saying, "Well, since I don't mind having my fanart stolen and I'm an artist, I don't see why any other artist should mind." And that reasoning is pretty dumb, IMO D:
But really, what pisses me off most about people making fanart out of icons is that they don't credit. And then they defend themselves by saying, "Well, as long as the iconist credits..." Who the hell credits?! I rarely see it. People are too fucking lazy to. It's as simple as asking a friend or making a post and asking, "Anyone know the site for this fanart..."
That's not advertising for the artist. That's just plain theft. And it's frustrating because I'd love to see the site where the art came from. If fanart theft led to me finding more fanart sites, I think I'd have a much better opinion of it.
I wasn't gonna post this anon, but I have friends in one of my fandoms that does it, and I know how belligerent they get when people say it's bad D:
13. Hee hee, I think I know who you are. But then again... maybe not.
25. Hmmm... it kind of disturbs me how CFUD seems to EAT LIVES (to the point that people stop using their regular LJs, wtf >.>;;) But I've found amusement while reading it, so I can't say I hate it. As for crack RPs taking less effort than serious RPs, that is a LIE. In many cases, it's harder to portray a character in a crack environment than it is in a serious one (since in most games, anime, shows, etc. the characters find themselves in serious situations most of the time).
