Oh man, the image alone hurt my heart as soon as I saw it. I kind of agree, OP. I wouldn't say it was horrible, but if I recall it was a little too upbeat considering what was happening.

Didn't stop me from bawling like a baby, though. I hadn't cried over a game like that in ages, and I'm pretty sure I was an emotional wreck for hours. ;_; It also prompted me to go on a hunt for good Zack/Cloud fic, and I couldn't find any. Sadness forever.

...no good zack/cloud fic? did you try alt spellings of zack's name? a lot of great fic came out before crisis core, so sometimes you need to search for zac/zax/cloud to get fic. or even Zakuraodo as the Japanese spelling will get you good fic. I think the term Clack is now being used if you want anything after crisis core.

That whole scene had me crying. Cloud's screaming just broke my heart. "Why" was a poor choice for that scene. An instrumental of Why might have been more appropriate.

I think I mostly spent a day digging through FF.net (not the best place, I know), because it's so easy to sort by pairing. I have the hardest time finding old fic on LJ without specific recs to go on, alas. :(

I never get around to saving fics to my HD like some people do, so this happens to me every so often. I wrote a note to the author asking if the fics were anywhere up for grabs / downloading etc. Lets hope so, since she wrote absolutely wonderful Zack/Cloud and had a lot of fics, all of them great. By far one of my favorite authors.

At least that's your only problem with the game. I had problems with the storyline, the unnecessary new characters, the butchering of the old characters, the retconning of iconic FFVII scenes, the pointless inclusion of a Japanese rock star, and the fact that Square Enix clearly was more interested in writing a story then making it fit with the FFVII world...instead of expanding on the world, characters and pot they had already set up with FFVII.

This was my same problem. It didn't help that Zack acts oblivious to half of the shit going on until Sephiroth goes FUCK YOU WORLD and decides to destroy everything. I can still pretend it's an okay part of the compilation though as long as I pretend Genesis Rhapsodos Gary Stu a la Retcon doesn't exist.

I totally agree with you and the OP 100%. I actually liked Crisis Core and felt it had a lot of good points, but that final song was just a terrible choice for the mood. And Price of Freedom, the song playing in just the previous scene IIRC, would have been perfect. It really felt like they were trying waaaay too hard to appeal to the Jpop crowd with this game.

Crisis Core is on the long list of games I've started but not yet got round to completing. I really do love the music from the parts of the game I've played so far tho. I remember before I got the game someone made a secret on here about the track 'Nights of Seclusion' and I ended up listening to that on repeat for ages afterwards. I do like the music. <3

There was an AMV on Youtube a long time ago that synced the ending of the game with "Brother Under the Sun." It was beautiful and to me that song became the anthem of the Crisis Core ending. I never finished the game (already knew what would happen, spoiled as I was,) so I don't know the actual song. But in that video the music and lyrics matched the images perfectly.
