Robot Unicorn Attack is the only thing for which I would ever write or read darkfic. In fact, I was planning on writing one, but never did...

My headcanon is that the world in the game is like a post-apocalyptic alien-infested world (covered in clouds of hallucinogenic, poisonous gas) and the unicorn is the only one who can drive the aliens out... and humanity has only has three chances to do it, otherwise everyone's gonna die.

I enjoy this headcanon as well (OP here). It sounds... dashingly disorienting with hallucinogenic clouds everywhere and I love me some "omg what am I seeing" plots.

Well I COULD tell you since nobody's wanted to burn me at the stake for this secret yet lmao but I dunno if you'd find what's on ff.net a bit.. different? vs this. I mean I def GO THERE but my Pokemon "super dark kinda cracky v concerning" fics were never finished. :C

I mostly write humorfics but I do want to go into scriptwriting so YOU MAY YET SEE THIS KIND OF HORRIFYINGLY GREAT REALITY!! OR I could not be lazy and finish up one of my "omg this.. what" fics.

Awwww, now I wanna know what happens to Robot Unicorn. :'(

Does his family and race shun him for his new body despite that he did it to save them? Then he sacrifices himself to get the last star bomb, thus causing everyone to recognize him as a hero? Or does he live and bring peace amongst the rainbow unicorn and dolphin races? I want to knoooow!

I dunno that's what the fandom was supposed to debate as stuff progresses, "how does this END" etc etc.

BUT, I can tell you what I'd go with!!

He would successfully destroy the last star, and set his unicorn people free, but they're a changed race, no longer open and loving and fun. They'd become xenophobic and because he's now a cybernetic unicorn with roboparts he would be outcast, despite being a hero. His wife, numbed to the world by the loss of their children, is looking for stability more than anything else and overlooks his changed exterior simply to have someone to hold onto in the wake of things. Eventually, he goes to leave for the dolphins, who offer him a bit of a sleazy deal - he becomes a trained assassin for them against their enemies or they do work on his home.
But his wife tags along because the stress of starting ALL OVER again on their brutally wartorn planet is too much. So they're together... but are they happy? Well I can't tell you EVERYTHING ;)

He does die in a fiery inferno on the last star, and in transported to the underworld, a place of fire and death, where to leave he must smash his way through pentagrams, all the while, being chased by screaming hell fish.
