Yes, and even then we see in the movies (at least Treasure Island and the new one) that he basically keeps abandoning her right at the moment of commitment. I read this secret and some of the comments about Piggy's behavior and am kinda shocked at how Kermit's behavior is either forgotten or hand waved.
(Although I probably most agree with the commenter who said "it's muppets, don't worry about it so much")
