Even a lot of people who weren't there when it happened probably experienced a lot of stress from it. I was stressed because I did homestay there (even though it was nowhere near the tsunami and no one in the area I stayed in died) and at first I was worried about my host family, then I found out they were okay but I was stressed because my teacher had family there and she was worried about them, and even when it was confirmed that everyone was okay there was still the nuclear power plant scare that could have been really, REALLY bad, and caused radiation poisoning in the rescue workers who went to stop it. :( So, yeah, that part of Ponyo was hard to watch because it reminded me of all that worry and all that had happened. And I can only imagine how much harder it would be for someone who lost loved ones there.
