wait, I take that back. Misreading those fucking italics.

The reference is a funny joke, but it also communicates something complex that has nothing to do with violence toward women in a clever way. It seemed like a really good place to draw a line in the sand and fight for it
This part is wrong because it ignore the context. The context was A FUCKING LOT OF BASHING against Carlie, including a fridging joke. At some point the mods put their foot on it and said no to all jokes about wishing violence against Carlie because people were going too far with it. If it had been only the Poochie joke, maybe. But it wasn't only the Poochie joke, it was everything else as well.

But wasn't the whole point that "the fridging joke" wasn't a fridging joke at all? That was the Poochie line. Cleome referred to it as a joke about fridging when it wasn't. I just scanned the thread from the link, but did I miss something? It seemed like there was a lot of criticism of Carly because people didn't like the character, and the mods stepped in any time that criticism used word choices that were gender-sensitive (harpy and hysterical) but it seemed like the Poochie joke was supposed to be the fridging joke.

No, there's was an actual reference to a fridge in the one comment that got deleted after it got a Mod Note for it. I remember I was able to check it because I tracked the comment on the post.

So the Mods stepped on both the joke about an actual fridge, and the jokes like the "Poochie" one were the wishing the death of the character was more peripheral to the comment - and I guess you could say that this is going too far, but to my mind this is addressing the fact that the bashing against Carlie was going too far overall and they had to do something a bit drastic to stop it.

I'm sorry I didn't take a screencap, but that's the way it is, I didn't know it would become such a huge deal after the fact and I can't do much against the fact that people are able to delete their comments easily.
