I feel like the less you know about Hugo going in, the more fun it is. I went in knowing absolutely nothing, and it was just like the books I loved as a kid- there's tons of fun little characters, everything looks gorgeous, and it's all cozy and sweet. Also, the music is fucking gorgeous.

That was nearly exactly my experience with the movie, too. all I knew was "the trailer makes it look vaguely steampunky and my friend said the 3D was amazing" so I went into it not realizing what the actual themes of the movie would be. It completely blew away my expectations.
