(Anonymous) 2012-01-02 01:44 am (UTC)(link)It is one of the hardest things to break away from what your family expects of you. I am pretty spoiled in a lot of ways with my own family, and I adore them, but I still don't know how to tell them that my faith, ideals, and goals are very different from what they expect of me. Me and my mother got in a argument today over a article which she was praising on how this male commentator said that 'Girls should go back to pretty instead of hot, as idolizing innocence kept men in line better as girl's are the ones to keep men aspiring to do better.' I snorted, and still maintain that I would rather not marry than have a man who I would have to keep in line by being some ideal.
Of course, the idea of not marrying, and of wanting to break away from the expected is so shocking to them and causes my mom worry about me, so I keep my tongue and work to get enough money for my own escape.
I think realizing what you want out of life, and then going after it, is one of the bravest things you can do.
