I had a similar problem, picked on at school and such. Boys seemed to shun me because of my interests as well, or it certainly felt like it even if I was just being paranoid. Now I've got a boyfriend who likes all the stuff I like and even says the geek stuff was an attractive trait. He claims he chatted me up by talking about Batman heh.
So this secret struck a chord with me. Glad you found someone who shares your passions OP! The only thing that makes me sad is you felt you had to hide who you were before you met her :(. Nobody should ever feel like that - kids (and people in general) are so horrible sometimes.
