Yes, they're using the original names this time. So far they're only two volumes in (the third volume is due to be released January 17, and they release one every two months) but it seems like everything is accurately translated so far. There have been complaints of the translation being too literal and there are quite a few English spelling/grammar errors strewn throughout, but it's much better than the Tokyopop mess we used to have. Kodansha, the company who published Sailor Moon in Japan, is handling the English release this time around and so far it's been pretty good aside from the aforementioned problems.

I know what I want for my birthday then! :) It's weird, for the last few months, I've been thinking about re-reading the manga, but was put off by not wanting to crack open the old Tokyopop volumes. And then this happens!

Yeah, I had sold my complete set of Tokyopop volumes a couple years ago and kind of regretted it because I wanted to re-read the manga. Then Miss Dream (http://www.missdream.org) started doing a new scanlation of the manga, and so far they've been the only group to completely finish it... but a few months into their release, the new volumes came out! And they're so much more durable than the Tokyopop books, and bigger too! The release schedule is torture because I finish them so quickly, but at least they aren't staggering them out for months like lots of other manga.

Thanks for the scanlation link! SM is definitely a series I want to have in my hands to read, but a scanlation is good in the mean time. I fell out of the SM loop so long ago. When I looked for scanlations, I never found anything besides downloads of the Tokyopop books. But that was years and years ago. At least then, it seemed like all scanlation groups were busy doing releases of manga that were new weekly in Japan, and not old series that already had English translations. Ah, I remember the old site simply called The Manga of Takeuchi Naoko, which provided a straight text translation of the the manga.

V is finished, the reprint version only has 2 volumes.

It's gonna take quite sometime to finish this print though ;-;

Sailor V has never been released in English before, has it?

[identity profile] firemelon.livejournal.com 2012-01-03 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope!

Oh, and I also meant to ask is the new English release flipped or unflipped?

[identity profile] lunarkitten.livejournal.com 2012-01-03 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Unflipped, thankfully. I haven't seen a flipped manga in years.

Last I checked, Inuyasha was still flipped, though only because it was such a long run that it started when flipping was common. I stopped buying those for various reasons, though. The flipping annoyed me, and so did the translation at times.

haha, oh boy I totally forgot that flipped manga ever existed. I'm glad that fell out of practice
