IDK... maybe I'm just projecting because the comment they were replying to really rubbed me the wrong way, but I read it as facetious dead baby comedy more than anything else. The language is over-the-top offensive, but what they're saying is basically true- disabled people, especially those of us with developmental or psychiatric disabilities are frequently portrayed as nothing but burdensome and our family members are lionized for putting up with us. And warehousing of the kind they describe, while fortunately rarer now than in the past, still happens.

I'm no more interested in flat caricatures of disabled characters as perfect little angels than anyone else, but there's already more than enough stigma out there without the kind of accentuate-the-negative portrayal that the other commenter seemed to be calling for. Greater diversity in the kinds of disabled characters 'allowed' to be shown on TV is a commendable goal, but it needs to be done with respect for the characters themselves, not just for how they affect their families.
