Actually, I think we Americans are supposed to be the "Britainnians." If you look at the map of the world in the opening credits and several of the map scenes, Britainnia is North America and the capital (Pendragon) is in Arizona. So....yeah.

Not that the creators don't have valid reasons to complain about American imperialism, but that's a whole different debate kinda off topic...

IIRC Britain invades the USA, and culturally dominates them prior to the events of the show.

They're clearly meant to be the British empire.

(this may or may not be fanon I've misremembered as canon now I think about it, can we get a confirm/deny?)

Maybe it's supposed to be Western civilization and/or imperialism in general? I really don't know. I know that the Americans lost the Revolution in the Code Geass verse and the U.S.A. doesn't exist in this universe, but I thought the United Kingdom was under the domain of the UNF in this verse, not Britannia? Not sure, my understanding of the CG verse is shoddy but then again so is their "alternate history," so I don't really know :/

The backstory and history of the Code Geass world make no sense.

For one thing Canadians are canonically 'Twos' - that is, the second territory conquered by Britannia. Even though Canada was a British colony to begin with.

Also, the Americans lost the revolution because Benjamin Franklin switched sides...?

Code Geass geography is all kinds of fucked up and is best ignored beyond what is directly relevant to the plot. I love the show but I have to ignore a lot of the supplementary world-building canon to keep my sanity.
