Obviously I can't really speak for the other person knowing nothing about your friendship, but sometimes it just comes to a point where one of you needs to move on. It's not that the other person doesn't care about your history together, it's more them needing to find something new or maybe they hope to increase their own productivity and can't do it unless they're alone. I had to break away from a friend of 7 or so years so that I could simply move on with my life. It's not the same for everybody of course. Some people will have several different friends over the course of their lives and some will stick with the same people forever. Don't resent your friend for it, just cherish the times you had together. :)

I'm sorry, anon, that really sucks :( I know how it feels to lose a best friend. I guess in the end people grow apart and change, but just because you can't stay together doesn't necessarily take away the good times you had. It's hard in the meantime, though.

That's really heartbreaking. 9 years is a very long time. I'm so sorry anon :(

Unfortunately, I went through the same thing. Just last year in fact. It's really hard when they just suddenly don't want anything more to do with you and it hits you like a hurricane. It's probably one of the most hurtful things I've had a 'so-called-friend' do to me. A little bit of you dies along with that friendship.

Maybe as a consolation, you're better off not having a shitty friend who would take you for granted like that.

Just because someone does not want to see you any more (for whatever reason), that doesn't mean they were a shitty friend the whole time. When a relationship ends badly, that does not negate all the good things that happened in that relationship.
