Doesn't sound that petty to me. Looks like whoever made the secret had a choice between a major headache and passing up a fic, and they chose not to deal with the headache.

DA
They also chose not to use ?style=mine just because they didn't feel they should HAVE to use it to read a person's fic. That's the part that comes off as slightly petty and to me, childish.

THIS. Basically what I said, but in fewer words.

Yeah, tbh it does sound pretty asinine, but a lot of people have that opinion that they shouldn't have to go out of their way to change something that they feel should be another's responsibility. The bottom line is that it's pretty petty from both perspectives, but it only ends up alienating the author from potential readers.

On the other hand, I think a person who has a public journal should think about the people who are going to be viewing their journal as well as themselves when they're setting up their color schemes. They're posting fic, they want people to able to read it.

anon from above

Yeah, that's the part that came across as petty to me.

IA that authors should try to make their journals easy to read, though. But when they don't, it seems silly to make an issue out of punishing them for it.

I would agree that it seems petty, but I don't really see the punishment.
It's the OP's loss if they miss a good fic because of that, as well as the loss of a potential reader for the author, but they probably don't know about it...

And if they won't bother to make their LJ readable, well, they are either lazy or deliberately annoying. That sort of thing would turn me off from reading anything they write by default, I think (never saw the case, tbh).
