Flight of the Navigator needs no remakes! Just infinite re-releases! (And for the love of nice things, SOMEBODY get on a Richest Cat in the World DVD.)

[identity profile] arathe.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
OMG, Flight of the Navigator! My childhood~!

I didn't realize they were doing a remake, but I really do hope they do it justice. I loved that movie.

Just chiming in with a 'MY CHILDHOOD!' comment. Love that film. <3

"Get the girl while aliens do stuff on the side"

Thank you for summarizing why I hate pretty much every movie with sci-fi themes nowadays.

[identity profile] evil-little-dog.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
...yeah, why can't girls do something other than need to be rescued? Aren't we over this by now?

[identity profile] streetcake.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
More girls, more aliens, less boys, is all I'm askin

[identity profile] evil-little-dog.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Look at Alien. Look at that franchise. Come on, if that didn't prove a chick could hold her own....

[identity profile] streetcake.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
The meida bigwigs say people don't care about women and they don't make money unless they're romantic interests, yet everytime they're proven wrong they.....? I dunno, it's not really a secret that they're morons.

[identity profile] evil-little-dog.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
It's funny that Hollyweird can be so progressive and so archaic at the same time.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-12 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
I would've loved Super 8 if it didn't have the romance "get the girl" subplot. The beginning had so much promise and it was all reminiscent of Goonies and those kids going on an adventure movies from my childhood that I loved. Then the girl showed up...

[identity profile] radomir111.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
A remake of this? B, b, but it was perfect the first time... :(

[identity profile] cure-light.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
This. They should just put it in theaters or something. I'd go see it like five times.

[identity profile] omorka.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
We re-watched this relatively recently because someone in our social circle had never seen it and didn't know Paul Reubens did voicework for it. I was startled by how well it holds up - better than Short Circuit, which is my not-terribly-well-considered metric for '80s light SF.

[identity profile] justaminuet.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Why would they ever want to make a remake of this? Oh, Hollywood; can't you try to not remake movies that are perfect as is?

[identity profile] caffeine-buzz.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Joining in with the 'My childhood!' I was randomly in the mood to watch this the other day and was very sad that it wasn't streaming on Netflix (Netflix streaming needs to add more random 80s stuff that I can put on when I'm not in the mood to watch anything in particular but need background noise).

[identity profile] 21lights.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Another 'My Childhood!' comment. That movie has a special place in my heart and I do not want to see it remade. Leave my childhood alone Hollywood!

[identity profile] starphotographs.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
OMG, this movie! :D I had almost forgotten about it until now!

I remember renting it about a million times because it was sadly out of print. I think a lot of it was that I really liked looking at the interior of the ship. ^^;

(Anonymous) 2012-01-12 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
holy CRAP I forgot about this movie. Now I have the urge to find it and rewatch.

[identity profile] luki-dimension.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
I totally agree. There aren't many movies I feel strongly against remakes, but this is one of them. Its got its flaws, but its still pretty much perfect in every way - which means any remake would be pointless unless they changed the plot...which is statistically likely to make it bad... As much as I'd like to be optimistic, can we just keep this little piece of nostalgia pure please?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-12 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm with you OP. I heard about this too and I hope it doesn't get made too. I remember hearing a while back there were talks for a Back to the Future remake as well and felt the same way. I don't get it. Why remake all these movies that are such childhood staples to many in their 20s and 30s? It honestly doesn't make me want to see it nor take any kids to see it. I'd sooner rent/buy the original and show it to them. Now if they RE-RELEASED this in theatres I'd be there in a heartbeat. Speaking of, I'm so tempted to watch Beauty and the Beast re-release. I was so in love with that movie as a kid haha

[identity profile] nemo-de-la-meer.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
This movie always made me sad. That his parents forgot about him and people treated him like a science experiment. I used to watch it ALL THE TIME.

For them to make a remake? God damn. No.

[identity profile] kribban.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Something about this picture reminded me of a movie I saw on TV fifteen years ago. It turns out it is this movie! Thank you, OP, I didn't know what it was called.

The most interesting part of the film is that the kid is gone from his timeline for eight years. That freaked my out as a kid!

Now I want to read angsty fanfiction about his family missing him for all those years.

[identity profile] twyla-hime.livejournal.com 2012-01-13 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
OMG I loved this movie when I was little! I can see why they would try to remake it, but it doesn't need it. And I doubt it will be as awesome as the original.

Sometimes I wished that more old movies could be re-released in theaters without being remade. That way it could get enough exposure for a new generation of fans, and also get back into the spotlight a bit.

Thanks for the secret, now I will go and watch this again.

This brings back memories. ♥
