I honestly don't understand when people talk about wank in the fandoms I'm in. Not that they're not legitimate complaints, but I just never see it. Some places might be a bit wanky, but it's easy to find somewhere else to hang out. (I rarely ever see wank, so I've somehow managed to avoid it without even trying.) Especially in a fandom as large and with as many sources as Transformers.

Just coming here to say this. I've never seen any serious Transformer-wank (save the occasional thread over at TF_Kink) at my usual haunts.

Also if I come across wank, it's mostly just bitchiness that can be easily resolved again. Compared to other big fandoms Transformers is like a breath of fresh air to me. In my old fandom people tried to bully others into suicide, some girls got severely harassed at conventions and someone had sex with a voice actor and when it came out they got so much shit for it they had to leave the fandom.

Yeah, never saw this kind of shit in Transformers fandom.

There are a few people who like to badmouth people, usually anonymously. It's ugly, but it's only ugly in those particular corners. Most of the fandom isn't the cobwebby attic where the strange things lurk. Or maybe better said, isn't mama's moldy basement where the wannabe 4channers hide from real life.

TF fandom is like the little girl with the little curl right in the middle of her forehead. When it's good, it's very very good, and when it's bad it's horrid.

But! Lurk for a bit, and it will be readily apparent where the wank circulates. It's quite easy to avoid, I've done it for years.

Yeah, there are some crazy, crazy effers in the fandom, but for the most part, in my experience, it's not that horrid.

Ehhn, sort of? It can be like that sometimes, but like other people have said, it's really no worse than other fandoms. I mean, I wouldn't avoid all of Harry Potter fandom because of Snapewives. You shouldn't miss out on the wonderful robot alien multi-verses to be explored out there just because you heard that there was some bad stuff in there.

This is exactly what I was talking earlier! Sure, the crazy exists, but that doesn't mean you have to be around it. I've been in the Harry Potter fandom--the granddaddy of wanky fandoms--since like, book four or something, and I've never seen real wank anywhere but in comms created specifically to talk about wanking. Same goes for Supernatural.

Don't shy away! We may be nuts, but we're also bolts; any craziness found within is a feature. In truth, I've found this fandom to be pretty calm in general if you don't go around looking for wank, so I wholeheartedly encourage you to jump in and have fun.

Relevant: I once watched a video the RealMrsOptimusPrime uploaded of her house. Everything in it was TF-movie related, but she had it so neat and organized I kind of liked it.

Oh man, I think I watched that video. I started out somewhat envious, but by the time she got to her kitchen and mentioned she only drinks out of cups with Optimus Prime on them, I was a liiiittle freaked out.

I can promise you, people like her are the exception rather than the rule. Most of us are crazy in the "LOL guys I thought of a crack pairing!" way rather than the "OMG U GAIS I THINKS TRANSFORMERS ARE REAL" way. I find it really hard to estimate the amount of wank a fandom has as a whole, but I don't think there's that much of it really. Come on in, the water's fine.

Oh, and watch out for that Tramp dude, he's sexist and homophobic. If people like Bonita scare you you'll definitely want to avoid him.
