Oh Black Mirror has a fandom?
Maybe I'm biased towards Charlie Brooker's stuff but I thought it was fairly interesting. The second episode particularly had a few clever moments

Compared to other tv shows and mini-series it was actually quite good (given I don't usually watch British tv so I really don't know how different it is compared to American and Italian tv)
Or at least, I thought the last episode was very interesting. It made me think and it made me want to write something about that kind of future.
The first episode? Kind of meh. I actually spent the whole time asking myself how he could actually hesitate to accept to sticking his dick in a fucking pig to save a human life, especially when the human life was a member of the royalty and he would have been shun for life way worse than he was shamed for saving her.
The second one was also meh. The whole concept of a world like that is faulty to me. I don't want to touch any of it with a 10ft pole. I had a hard time getting to the end of it.
Aaand, then came the third and the Grain and I really, really liked it.

Regarding the first episode, if I'd been in his situation I'd have resigned from my position and flipped the finger to everyone on my way out.

Shunned for life or rape? I'd like to avoid rape, thanks. Sure, someone innocent gets murdered, but just because they're royalty doesn't make them more important in my eyes. If it was someone I loved/cared about a lot on an emotional level, I'd fuck a pig in an instant, but anyone else can just piss off.

I get your reasoning, but the choice is between you("you" being obviously not you, Anon) not only as prime minister, but specifically as prime minister Michael Callow raping a pig or getting mediatically and possibly physically attacked and killed for not doing it - people are crazy, if someone is crazy enough to demand that you fuck a pig not to kill a person, someone else is going to be crazy kill you (and your family) if you don't.

I, being the chicken I am, would have fucked the pig and then expatriated and lived my life as an exiled.

I could sit here trying to point out how it was clever, but I'm getting the impression that defending it would be pointless ;) So, all I'll say is that I know a few other heathens people who didn't like it. You're not alone.

I got the clever points and the "brilliant social commentary" everyone's gushing about, but it was still pretty... meh. It could've been a lot better tbh
I guess I'm pretty jaded but it offered nothing new I hadn't seen before, save for fucking the pig (though I've seen similar situations before, just replace the pig with someone human but still barf-inducing).

Er...

(Anonymous) 2012-01-12 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
sa

Y'know, like raping someone's own child because someone's forcing you to do it, for example?
I meant the situation as barf-inducing, if that's what the confusion's about.

[identity profile] ditdatdo.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, thanks for the clarification.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-12 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think the social commentary for any of the episodes was all that ground breaking but for me it was the PM's own struggle in TNA that I thought was the most interesting aspect.

[identity profile] mizzuks.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
What kind of shows DO you like, OP?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-12 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not OP, but based on the fact that they watched Black Mirror? Something with really black humor perhaps.

[identity profile] rayiroth.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I need to see the final episode to get complete opinion, so far I liked it but I wouldn't call it revolutionary. More like uplifting versions of Ben Elton novels. But hey, I like Ben Elton novels.

I thought The National Anthem was fantastic, it stayed with me for weeks after. The other two, I wasn't as impressed by but it was still better than a considerable amount of what's on TV at the moment. Hopefully it's at least made waves for more innovative programming in general.

[identity profile] arcadiaego.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
It was OK but certainly not genius.
