I love pretty much anything by Yamaji Ebine, Minami Q-ta and Kiriko Nananan. Some of their stories are set in high school, but they also have stories about young adults, and all of their work is quite realistic. (Takako Shimura is also one of my favourite manga-kas, but longer series - Aoi hana which is f/f and Wandering Son which deals with transsexuality and gender identity - have a school setting, though if you enjoy thought-provoking, bittersweet and complex stories, I'd recommend them even so. Her short story collections deal with adults, though they're not always f/f.)

I also really enjoyed June Kim's 12 Days.
