It's always amazing to me the drama that ensues when a character has a Southern accent. I don't get it. Other regional accents are fine, nobody gets upset about those, but a Southern accent causes all sorts of drama. It's just an accent!

I think if some people hear an accent they strongly associate with a particular region on Earth, it damages the suspension of disbelief of a fantasy universe. I don't get this myself because it's not like they're speaking English anyway - what we're hearing is already a translation from the "common tongue" or whatever, whichever accent it's spoken in - but that seems to be the basic idea.

I think it's because a lot of people hear the southern accent and go '-100 IQ points', amongst other, less flattering, assumptions about the speaker. At least, that's what I've gathered from the times I've had to deal with it.

Quite. I've had people flat out tell me they hate my accent and it made them think less of me. Even the ones that I'd talked to for years online before they ever heard me.

eh, you like what you like. I like boys who I can have nice and snarky banter/bickering with. there isn't an ideal relationship model, really, so go with your flow and don't judge others.

OP here. I don't understand what you mean about judging others, there was no judgement at all! I was just commenting about how attractive I found the character to be. :)

I like Southern accents, but not the redneck version. Only if they're real though. Fake-Southern accents are usually atrocious.

Ditto on the "fake" thing. Also, just about every actor THINKS they can pull it off easily but I usually fail miserably at it. Another thing that bothers me is that nobody bothers to distinguish between different Southern accents. Someone from South Texas does not sound like someone from Alabama or Kentucky -- there are pretty distinct variations. Also I cringe when people think someone from New Orleans has a typical Southern accent. There are a whole handful of accents and dialects that are native to Southern Louisiana and that you don't hear anywhere else. Some don't even sound Southern

I have the same pet peeve with New York accents. There's many, and they don't all sound like a sanitation worker from Brooklyn. I myself have never told anyone to fuggedaboutit.

As a native Texan - this. The various parts of Texas even have different accents - much less every state in the South sounding the same.

I live right on the border of MS/TN and pretty close to Arkansas and even the accents between those vary greatly!

I tend to try and explain it to people using the different types of accents there are in England. Not all English accents are equal and the same goes for Southern. :I One day there will be understanding... one... day...

Oh god this. I hate it so much. 9 times out of 10 it's a shitty way to show this person is stupid by giving them a fake southern accent. THANKS GUYS. My friend doesn't get why it bothers me so much.

I sort of liked Corso at first, but his rabid insistance that women shouldn't ever be harmed, no matter if they're a completely whacked out full on darkside *Sith Lord* who was force choking kittens five minutes ago. If I kill her, I'm horrible. I swapped Corso out for the wookie.

Torian Cadera over with the Bounty Hunter story at least only flips at me if I act without honor to my opponents, he doesn't get bent out of shape over species or gender.

As a Southerner, I've always been really impressed with Corso's accent. I'm from Mississippi/Tennessee and it's pretty spot on. I'm usually super annoyed with fake southern accents because it's MY accent and damn it, I can tell the difference. Corso, however, sounds great! :)

Also, I will never understand the hatred fandom has for the poor guy. He's portrayed pretty realistically and he has his flaws. I see a lot of his mentality around my area and it doesn't make them bad men. They're just silly and a little ignorant but in the end, they mean well. Who says the smuggler takes his shit, anyhow? People tend to assume that if you love Corso, you and your character completely buy his bullshit moments 100%. Sigh.
