why is it a secret, op? isn't he still missed by most of the skating world for his combo of artistry and athleticism? i thought even plushenko fans missed him.

Me too, OP. I like Plushenko and Buttle well enough, but Alexei Yagudin will always be the best of the best to me.

I really hate that skaters tend to drop out after they won the gold and it seems that someone like Plushenko is becoming more of a rarity that competed after winning the gold. I mean I understand skating is virtually your life if you compete in the senior circuit but I hate seeing a lot of talent doing their swan song while they still are young enough to compete in the Olympics.

Although Alexei is understandable because he got hurt pretty badly, iirc. But he was my fave growing up although I cheered for the home team.

Oh, how I wish Plushenko would finally quit! His staying so long will end in a disaster after Sochi, but does anybody care? I understand that skating is the only thing he can do and that he doesn't know anything else, but man, learn something while you're still young. And quit so that young athletes can continue!

Oh gosh, my sister was so in love with him when we were young. When he won gold I thought her pre-teen heart was going to burst with happiness. (I thought he was quite fine as well, but he was always hers.)

Missing Yagudin is far from the strangest thing I've heard in the past couple hours, let alone something that should be kept secret.

If you'd said Philippe Candeloro, however, I'd understand the need for secrecy.

I still periodically will watch that very routine (that I also saw on 'live' TV) and this is the first time I've seen the mask in his costume.

Also, I miss everyone that was around from that decade between the early 90s and the early 00s.
