Agreed. The hate she's getting lately is unfair and I feel the whole TVD fandom has turned into such a negative and hateful place, which makes me sad because really.

Elena is one of my favorite characters on the show. I seriously do not understand the hate. I think she's a wonderful character.

I don't really have any problems with Elena as a character. Her decision to have Damon compel Jeremy away pissed me off, but at least Bonnie called her on it so it's not like the writers just gave her a free pass about it (and I figure it won't stick anyway, it's just the writers writing around the budget not letting them have every character in every episode). But, while she isn't my favorite character, I do like her. I don't get the hate.

My guess is that Jeremy was on the vervain (because dude, the second you realize you've gone off it, you're gonna get right back on as quick as possible. I don't believe he went and confronted Tyler without having a nice swallow of vervain and probably stuffing bits of it into every orifice) and was not actually compelled. I'm betting he's gonna show up several episodes from now in a Big Damn Heroes moment. And there's a part of me hoping he'll have been conspiring with Stefan, because they will now have a "little brothers of older siblings that tend to screw them over for whatever reason" bond".

Of course I just watch the show and I'm not into the fandom, so I have no idea about the hate she gets. It doesn't surprise me though, knowing how fandom in general is.

Not as much hate as Bonnie has always gotten, sorry. But I don't hate on Elena. She does a few things that are a bit questionable, but I'm not about to post a rant about her on tumblr.

I focus on Bonnie too much to care otherwise.

Wait, WHAT? Who hates Bonnie, and WHY? Caroline is probably my favorite female character (it's hard to choose, I love A LOT of characters on that show), but damn, Bonnie is FIERCE.

There was massive hate for her in Season one and two. I stopped watching after that...for numerous reasons. But the hate for Bonnie seems to be everywhere. And maybe that's because I try finding stuff for Bonnie in general. Even Kat gets flack for BEING Bonnie. It's just stupid. Especially since this TV show has limited minorities, there's hate for her. Just wtf.

I didn't like Bonnie during her relationship with Jeremy. I grant that it was the way that the writers made it happen more than it was Bonnie herself, but when it came down to it, it felt to me like she was using him as a link to something normal in the midst of the craziness of the world around him more than her genuinely being interested in him. Since I count Jeremy as one of my favorite characters, it bothered me. The funniest thing is that I finally bought their relationship last episode as she was saying goodbye and the relationship already over.

Aside from the Bonnie/Jeremy relationship, though, I do like her.

I will never understand fandom's need to hate on this girl. Sure, she's done some questionable things, but the show is about people being pushed to desperately do fuck-up things to protect the people they love. It's not about thrilling heroics or rising above the darkness or anything like that. TVD is a show about falling from grace and Elena is going that magnificently.

The best part of TVD is that no one is perfect. Good guys make bad guy choices and vice-versa- so I think Elena does the best she can- she's 18- she's having to make crazy adult choices in very extreme circumstances. Are they all perfect? No way. But I think those choices come from trying to do what's best.

I also think it's possible that a lot of the hate comes from the Elena/Damon relationship developing.

Wait, people are seriously hating on Elena? I love the fact that she makes mistakes, and is called out for them in canon. It makes her a not-Mary-Sue.

I'm seriously glad I'm staying out of this fandom, now. I'll just stick to writing my crossovers. :(

One of my friends who I love watching TVD with has a massive hate-on for Elena, and it always makes me sad because she's one of my favorite characters.

Elena is a great character, and she doesn't have to be supernatural or fight-y to do it (although the part where she stabbed Stefan this season was AWESOME). One of my friends that I turned on to this show said "I would like Twilight a lot more if Bella was more like Elena." And lets be frank, TVD kicks Twilight's ass on SOOOO many more levels that that, but at the same time, YES, EXACTLY.

I haven't watched the show since the middle of season 2, but I know that before I just quit that I was frustrated with how Elena was being written. All of the things I loved about her in season 1 (all of the things I liked about the show in general in season 1) were being overshadowed by her romance with Stefan; she wasn't a great friend anymore, she wasn't there for the people she loved. Katherine messing with the Stefan/Elena relationship made the writers push her character into being only about that relationship, and as someone who enjoys her relationships with her friends and family over any guy, it was making me not enjoy her character anymore.
