That is interesting. There's so many people bitching about strong female characters but they never write fic or anything about them

wtf

Generally speaking, I seen lots of women arguing for more female characters in anything. Yet when they're given an opportunity like Noir it's suddenly overlooked. I mean, why bother asking for a better and more deserving pair of female characters if they only time people pay attention to them is when they're genderbended into guys? :/

'I seen lots of women arguing for more female characters in anything. Yet when they're given an opportunity like Noir it's suddenly overlooked.'

I agree. I feel this is definitely proven with Adventure Time and Homestuck.

In Adventure Time, genderbent Marceline/Princess Bubblegum has a ridiculous amount of attention considering the fact the subtext is when they're female.

In Homestuck, the females are generally more interesting (imo), but bare minimum they're on the same footing as the guys. M/m still reigns supreme.

It just shows am ugly double-standard. Why bother exclaiming the need for more strong and main female characters when no one cares? It's like let's spent tons of time and effort caring only about TV shows (etc.) with two main male characters and ship the hell out of them with or without subtext, but then argue there isn't enough love to anything involving two main female characters.

Yeah, I'd be fine with if they'd just...admit they'd rather see two men than two women. They seem overly concerned with being equal opportunity shippers, when it's CLEARLY not the case.

They're basically trying to burn the candle at both ends. Some people need to learn that you can't push for more leading ladies when they don't acknowledge their existence in the first place. From what I've seen Rizzoli & Isles is probably the closest we're going to get to two female characters getting noticed often. Yet I also feel that if both characters were male then its fandom would be at least three times as large.

lol you make it sound like m/m shippers are the only ones who complain about wanting strong women or something haha

[identity profile] lashiec.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
Naaah of course not! I want strong women all day every day, and I don't ship much of anything.
