Maybe you ship the idea of them or something?

[identity profile] spam-27.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Cause they're hot and you're shallow.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
You sound really uptight.

ext_580332: (Tony/Steve)

Used to be the same way. But a little effort to find the source material can go a LONG way OP.

Try here first.

It gets even slashier the farther you get into the rabbit hole.

Oh, and Captain America in the movie was adorkably wonderful. And the movie was basically a geek fest of punching Hydra-Nazis and Steam-Punk for the WWII era. So I would definitely recommend it!

[identity profile] barnabys-bane.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if you've been hanging around the fandom after seeing Captain America, I'm pretty sure there are a ton of other people who ship them, so if you stumbled across something Steve/Tony and happened to like it, then it's possible for you to ship it based on fanon alone. That sort of thing happened to me a few years ago with characters from a video game I'd never played.

[identity profile] dryadgurrl.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
... okay, are you me OP? Because I've said this to SO MANY PEOPLE recently. Basically those exact words.

I always attributed it to A, my slash goggles being on too tight and B, well, to paraphrase the anon someone above, they're hot and I'm shallow.

I've read some fanfics on tumblr and I find them cute so yeah, maybe the fandom gave you ideas :)

[identity profile] aloneindarknes7.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Doesn't really matter since EVERYONE ships them.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Tony/Steve is my OTP for Marvel, followed closely by Logan/Piotr. <3 for all the shippers, OP!

[identity profile] inboots.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
if it's of any consolation, i think even the fans who have seen all three movies (but haven't read the comics) still don't have much to base the rabid steve/tony shipping on other than "dem some fine asses" or "why not, it's trendy," op.

ngl, i'll lmao if the film ends up jossing the fandom's preconceived notions of how the characters should interact. and i'm curious about how chris evans will manage to hang in there with rdj, charisma-wise.

[identity profile] tardiscrash.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
Regardless of the film they are still the most married thing that was ever married (and divorced and reconciled)in the comics.

Nope, that's OK. Their chemistry can be seen from...Jotunheim.

[identity profile] tardiscrash.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
This, I finished watching Iron Man (after Captain America) and turned to my wife and was like... I NEVER do this but I could REALLY see that guy with Steve. Then I started reading the comics and now it's like OTP for live.

Some how you can just TELL they are made for eachother

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Shippers like you are the reason I hate shippers.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Well thank god. Leave us to our shipping.

OP... oh, OP... until the movies came of 95% of Avengers fandom was Steve/Tony. I wouldn't worry. You'll be just fine going along on the Marvel version of Kirk/Spock. You'll only have problems with the fandom if you don't ship these two.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
Holy shit. When did Chris Evans turn into a young Dennis Quaid?

[identity profile] tardiscrash.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
Clearly what you need to do is READ ALL THE COMICS. Avengers Prime, man. Also just all of Invincible Iron Man, well not all, unless you have that sort of time/money but pick up the trade paperback of The Five Nightmares and I promise you will be back for more.

It's a popular ship that has been around much longer than Iron Man and Captain America movies. Look in some of the comic-based comms for fic. You might need a quick wiki search to look up a few details or bits of history, but there is a ton of stuff out there.

[identity profile] philstar22.livejournal.com 2012-01-23 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
I did see Captain America, but I also haven't read the comics. I totally ship. In fact, I ship pretty much every combination of characters for this fandom.
