I'm sorry but I think this is funny. Even though it must have totally sucked to go through. >.> And IDK how you knew the women's bathrooms were smaller than the men's but yeah the women's bathroom lines are always SOOO long I HAAATE it. I thought it was because females just need to go more because of periods and bladder problems after childbirth, and because they have to sit down to pee, or something.

Seriously, why wouldn't they let you back in after you left? That's the dumbest rule ever. Wouldn't it make them lose money on snacks? Besides, some people CAN'T hold it. What if a pregnant lady wanted to see a movie? Seriously what a dumb theater.

I have a hard time re-watching this film because when I saw it in theaters, the order of the reels got switched. It was the midnight showing, and we'd honestly thought that Rorschach's escape from prison had been cut. The dude got fired, and his manager was waiting outside the theater to give us free movie passes in apology. It's pretty much all I think about whenever I get the urge to watch it, so yeah, you're not alone in stupid reasons to avoid a film.

Asfdasfda Watchmen secret yaaaay!

I've had weird experiences with movies like that, anon. What I do is, I watch the movie over and over again. It's really hard at first but if you watch it over and over again, piling as many good experiences on top of the less-than-stellar one, eventually the bad association goes away.
At least it did for me, so maybe it's worth a shot?

I sure hope that you've found a new movie theater to go to! I never heard of any movie house where if you had to use the bathroom that you couldn't get back into the theater. A play, ballet or opera, I can understand them not letting you return until intermission, but not a movie. :P

You do have my sympathy though. I used to work for a movie theater and a few of my favorite films have been permanently ruined for me due to weird things happening. One time a fight broke out between two film patrons and now that's all I can think about when I see "Breakfast at Tiffany's." These clowns even managed to have their fight during my favorite scene!

Aw, sorry that that had to ruin the movie for you, anon.

One time I was at a theater with only two movies playing. I got up to use the bathroom, and when I returned I went inside the other movie instead. Since it was so near the end of the movie, I'm still not sure how the first one ended lol

Something similar happened to me when I saw 'The Dark Knight'. I had decided to get a GIANT SODA and then I was ready to run out of the theater to the restroom as soon as the movie was over.

And then I discovered there was still like... half a movie left. Seriously, where did that extra hour come from??? XD

[identity profile] dwell-ondreams.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds like the worst movie theater in the world.

[identity profile] smittenlotus.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Well at least you didn't pee in the theater. I expected this to be another secret about how someone jerked off or took a shit while they were watching whatever movie they were watching in the theater. fs gets a lot of those, yuck.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I was expecting this secret to end with "so, I pee'd in the seat instead and don't regret it." It's not like F!S hasn't had that secret before...

(Anonymous) 2012-01-24 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, this secret would be best described as a relief.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
What kind of movie theater won't let you leave to go to the bathroom?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Being trans, I can tell you that you're probably wrong about the size of the restrooms. In my experience, when restrooms aren't the same size, the ladies' room is usually the larger one. (And yes, I have visited both restrooms in the same location at a wide variety of places.) Of course, a urinal takes up less space than a stall, so it's possible to fit more, uh, devices into a smaller space in the gents' room. (Even counting by number of devices, though, it usually comes out to equal or more for the ladies.) But bathroom lines, I've discovered, are often due to speed of use, not the size of the restroom. When I used the ladies' room, I was the fastest person in and out. Now that I use the gents' room, I'm one of the slowest. It's kind of remarkable, actually.

Of course, in some places, the gents' room is larger than the ladies', and this may be the case in your theatre, but that certainly is not the case everywhere, at least not in my experience.

[/totally missing the point of the secret]

Life lesson: don't drink anything for two hours before going into the theater. Eat something salty that day too. (Stay hydrated at all other times, though!)

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow, I feel bad for you. Watchman is a long ass movie... Personally I hate leaving a movie to go for a washroom break unless it's an absolute emergency. It's not even about disturbing other people, but I'm so cheap that I don't want to waste the money I paid for the ticket haha

As someone who worked at a movie theatre, I don't know what compels women to all use the washroom after the movie is over. I hated washroom duty because the place would be a complete mess after! Puddles of water all over the place from the sinks, paper towel everywhere and people who don't flush! I had heard the men's was worse though...

It's not that weird, I ha a similar experience while watching Lord of the Rings (1st movie), except I *thought* we were getting near the end of the movie, so I held on.

Now, my main memory of that movie is how I felt like yelling "DIE, BOROMIR, DIE, FOR FUCK'S SAKE, YOU'VE BEEN AGONIZING FOR 20 MINUTES ALREADY!".
And I wanted all the characters to keep being all emotional about his death, and about having to split, because I couldn't care less because OMG NEED TO PEE NOW.

It really changes the whole perspective on a story...

[identity profile] relmneiko.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Women need to pee more often than men - it's a biological fact (mens' sex organs are external so they have more bladder room; womens' take up bladder space). I'm always surprised when people don't know this; womens' washrooms are generally actually bigger than mens' for this reason. I was at a theme park with some friends a while back - me, another girl, and two guys. Me and the girl were constantly demanding pee breaks while the guys peed like once or twice all day. Hasn't anyone else had experiences like this that showed them the truth of female pee? :P

BATHROOM AT A THEATRE STORY: I went to Takarazuka theatre in Japan, and if you know anything about it you know it's an all-female musical troupe with a 95% female fanbase. The line to the womens' washroom at intermission was like 20 minutes long. The mens' bathroom was nearly empty! What were the theatre designers thinking when they built the place? Next time I go, in true Takarazuka fashion I plan to dress up as a guy and use the mens' room. No way am I waiting that long again!

(Anonymous) 2012-01-18 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Oh girl. I salute you. Seriously.
I could never hold it for two hours and still concentrate on a movie.

Also I'm glad you didn't proudly pee your pants. I was afraid the secret would end like this XD

[identity profile] kikkyo.livejournal.com 2012-01-18 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
I seriously would probably rethink giving that theater any business if they kick you out for taking a pee break. Nazi much?
