Sorry! English is a unwieldy beast. I apologize as a future teacher of the language.

'Check your privilege' is a slang way of saying 'you are being a race-centric idiot'. Basically, because white people have privileges as a majority in America and other places.

So the OP is saying that since some people believe those two characters were meant to be white, that they are ethno-centric. Basically, they believe that as they themselves are white, that of course everyone who looks like them in animation is white too. Whether the people are actually like that is a whole other story.

My language is directly descended from Latin so...xDDD

It's usually hard to find some definitions as language changes relatively quickly, so I totally understand.

And yes, figuring out a language with different roots is pretty hard at times. I'm leaning a latin-based language and I sometimes struggle to remember things that are so basic to it!

Spanish, although I hope to move on to Portuguese after getting a handle on it. I learned a tiny bit while spending some time in Brasil and I loved it, but Spanish is more practical for me and I enjoy that language as well. (I have quite a few languages on my list to learn, but I can't afford classes or advanced computer programs so I mostly watch shows in the language, listen to music, play games, and read books with a translator handy on my iPod.)

though in this instance you are correct it ain't just about race

True. I have heard it mostly in conjunction with race, but it sometimes is used for things with wealth/social status/etc. Thanks for pointing that out! :)
