I am never as happy as when I'm in The UK and can sit on a bench looking at rush hour, there is suits everywhere! And it is just so alien, in Norway our lawyers might put on a full suit for court, other than that, most office workers might wear some kind of shirt (men) and the women might have a nice top on, but jeans and such are not frowned upon.

(and my professors all went around in whatever they felt like, the most amusing was my 50 something prof with t-shirts with Harley Davidson and assorted music prints...

As someone who loves suits and are know to both wear high heels and suits on a regular basis I will never have that problem, except that people constantly tell me that I am always dressed so nice, and me going "I am?" because seriously I don't own one pair of jeans and such. (that made me sound snobbish and rude didn't it? I didn't mean for it to sound that way...)

Pretty much the same here! Some jobs have higher requirements (one part-time job of mine requires me to wear khaki pants with my scrub top, for instance) but that is fairly rare. And it usually doesn't go above 'nice khakis or dark jeans with a decent top' as a minimum.

I could so professor watch. I had a pretty diverse college so you could always tell the true Latino/Latina teachers as they were the ones dressed to the nines. Most men wore shorts or jeans with a t-shirt while women wore fairly casual to 'cute-but-oh-just-got-flashed-by-the-prof.' I had one professor who wore hawaiin shirts or 70's shirts with shorts or slacks and slicked back hair. He was awesome. (Seriously, male teacher hair watching is a sport in and of itself. Between the Einstein, the Grease-monkey, The Hipster, etc...)

Ha! No it didn't. My brother is the same way. He hates jeans, and wears anything but. And I wish I could say the same. I mostly didn't care about style until last year when I discovered my own, so my entire wardrobe needs a revamp. I find myself gravitating towards skirts and dresses more and more... though I believe I will always have at least two pairs of jeans. ;) True American here. lol!

Yeah, my current contract states that I am not allowed to wear sweat pants (? stuff you train in) and hoodies, but other than that they don't care.

Wanna switch unis? My state run university was quite boring (to clarify mostly all Universities and Colleges in Norway are state run, which makes them basically free.) except one notable exception, my high school on the other hand, oh that was a bunch of weirdos, one of the math teachers did seriously look like he was homeless...

Jeans are uncomfortable, my suit trousers are soft and nice, so is my dresses and skirts, I don't do clothes that leaves marks or are uncomfortable. Ah no judgement on the jeans (Other things maybe, but not you personally and totally not your jeans)

[identity profile] kindlycoyote.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Nice. That sounds incredibly comfortable.

Sadly I have graduated, so I can no longer make such deals. Though I can easily share the craziness in telling about things such as the Interpretive Dances and Protest Plays that would randomly take place on the plaza, and my Vampires in Literature: From Dracula to Twilight class. Ah, fun times.

It depends on the jeans. Really, I have had worse experience with slacks (no give!), but with a stiff pair of jeans a size too small and I know what you mean. But seriously, a good pair of jeans broken in are some of the most comfortable pants in the world. Eventually they get so worn in that they feel like velvet! And trust me, I can have civil talks about disagreement in politics and religion, and I am one of the hardest people to get worked up. And the sillier the debate? THE BETTER! :D

<Is slightly in love with hearing differing opinions. Friends think me weird.

[identity profile] making-excuses.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Ah I am taking a year off, so offering was a bit pointless... I so envy American and British University students you have such fun classes, I on the other hand had exciting things like Religions of the South-east Asia and "how to write scientific articles" and that's how exciting it gets...

I guess? The fabric is just so heavy and stiff, and my suit trousers are all nice and soft from day one, same with my dresses.. Ah getting me pissed about anything is quite hard, I love to discuss anything and everything up to and including politics and religion:)

I love listening to what other people think (as long as it's not too extreme...)

[identity profile] kindlycoyote.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Well, we have the boring classes too. Oh, and then we have the supposedly 'fun' classes that are required and are just really, really stupid. But yes, I did love a lot of the fun stuff we had. I always will regret that my job kept me from getting into the Swing Dance class or the Coepeira class.

I think it depends on the trousers? I have gotten a lot of really stiff slacks, so I suppose it depends on quality/where you buy/etc. I have one really nice pair of gray slacks that feels like silk that I ADORE. But for it to feel that good is rare in my experience.

And same. Really, the tipping point for me is brain-breaking logic. Like one co-worker who insisted that Obama's pet dog's name is propaganda for him. Because the dog's name is Bo, and that is supposed to stand for 'Barack Obama'. I shuddered, and quickly walked away before my brain could fracture.

[identity profile] making-excuses.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
We only have boring classes...

It does, I just don't buy clothes if they feel uncomfortable...

Oh come on! That's the stuff that I just can't understand, I don't do conspiracies, I trust the police and politicians and if that makes me stupid or whatever so be it. (And to clarify no I don't blindly trust everything, but I am a big believer in "if one person does something stupid it is not the groups fault, it is the individual" and I shouldn't trust the state less just because there are some idiots around.)

[identity profile] kindlycoyote.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
A lot of my stuff I either got second-hand or on sale, so that is probably it!

And yes. I naturally don't trust a lot of politicians, but even I don't think that they are sinister beings who are plotting the downfall of *name country here*. I just think they are very human and prone to human follies. And of course, I am very cynical right now thanks to the way a lot of stuff is being handled in the US, but that is more a issue of specific political circumstances than any other thing. I think I need to get back more to the center though, I am pretty sure it isn't healthy to be so jaded at my age. O_o

[identity profile] making-excuses.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
Mine too actually, but I have enough clothes for three people...

I hear you, I guess with Norway mostly not being hit by the economic crisis and the biggest political issues we have right now is shutting down small hospitals and some stuff about jail time... I'¨m happy being this socialist (real socialist, not the American equal) person who trusts the state and don't really follow the politics of her country...

[identity profile] purrple-267.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, same here. I think I own one pair of jeans, but I don't wear them often. Idg what people mean by jeans being comfy, tbh, any softer fabric pants will be more comfy, even if they look like business attire.

[identity profile] making-excuses.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
You person are so my new friend:)
