It depends on the fandom. There are plenty of fandoms, such as many video game fandoms for instance, where men are in the majority. Also, it depends on how you define fandom - if you restrict it to fanwork creation, then yes, women will probably be in the majority. But if you include things like forum discussion or mods creation (in the case of video games), then in many fandoms there will be more men.

Yeah, I'm in a game fandom, and we have some near-canon same sex couples (f/f and m/m, in fact). It's disproportionately the guy fans (we're about 50/50, I'd say) denying that the characters could ever be anything but 100% heterosexual, and go off about the "fangirls" and their "yaoi". But... they're often into fic about straight couples involving the "definitely not gay" characters.
