I'm completely in love with the scene where Loki visits Thor on Earth and tells him that Odin's dead; it's just really nice, genuine work from Tom & Chris.

Honestly, for me (and my younger sister), that scene is on par with the interrogation scene from The Dark Knight. The rest of the film is so shiny and hammy, and then that scene is beautifully quiet and arresting. Thor's completely vulnerable, and Loki is at his manipulative best, and as a scene, it's pretty darn wonderful on it's own.

Ooh, good comparison! At that moment I just felt like I was watching a really brilliant scene with two brothers; I wasn't thinking "I'm watching a comic book movie;" it was just a really great, classic scene. Just the way he says "Can I come home?" is utterly heartbreaking. I'm also extremely fond of the "so I am just another stolen relic?" scene and also "is it?! IS IT?!?", of course, because while they're both totally hammy in parts, they're also really intense and emotional.

At that moment I just felt like I was watching a really brilliant scene with two brothers; I wasn't thinking "I'm watching a comic book movie;" it was just a really great, classic scene. Just the way he says "Can I come home?" is utterly heartbreaking.

My thoughts exactly. It wasn't until my second viewing that I began to realize what a fantastic scene it is. I think it's the setting's normal appearance that accentuates the brother aspect of the whole thing versus the royalty aspect. It's rooted in emotion, not the superpowers or the fantastical elements. It's a sibling rivalry turning dangerous---you could have a similar scene in, say, a gangster movie or a family drama. And that "Can I come home?" line kills me every time.

Loki's hamminess in general is awesome.
