I'm sad that I know the bullshit ultraconservative rationalization for this.

It was the American commanders' fault for underfeeding them beforehand. The poor Japanese soldiers weren't aware they were malnourished and were just keeping up a normal pace. They did everything they could.

Seriously? This is seriously the rationalization they give.

Yeah shooting people for going to give the guys food and medical aid was totes just keeping up a normal pace. Definitely.

But those are all made up stories intended to give the American government more war propaganda for fighting the Japanese soldiers trying to liberate Asia from colonial rule.

If you ever get the chance, take a peek at a Japanese (as in, by Japanese people) account of the war. Or have a discussion about it was a very conservative Japanese person. Shit's every but as frightening as some of the American ultraconservatives from the deep south.
