Probably because the fandom consists of prepubescent girls before they discover yaoi/yuri.

Seriously... this comic is really only read by 13 year old girls. I doubt any of them even understand the concept on non-canon ships.

That's sad. I'm not much into anime/manga fandom (really only faithfully follow one on LJ), so while I heart this manga so much, just never ventured into the fandom for fics or anything. Yeah Natsume/Mikan is totes my otp but I do like other ships (especially with the teachers! =D) and hell would love to read some gen of certain charas too.

I'm way behind on the manga but always up for some discussion!

That's weird. I haven't tried looking into this fandom, but when my friend and I watched the series we basically slashed everyone with everyone else. I guess the fans' age has something to do with it, but erm. 13-year-olds don't ship slash? I find that hard to believe...

Aww, I remember watching this series way back when it first aired. I only read a few of the first volumes.
So Mikan and Hotaru didn't end up together? That's... disappointing. I honestly thought they were gonna be endgame.
(And I was like, 16 or 17 when it first aired, so it's not like only young teens watch it.)

Watched the anime, don't care about fandom, but I always liked Mikan with Hotaru.

Or really, I mainly just like Hotaru.

The fandom is pretty young, maybe that's the reason.

Still sucks. And it sucks how such a fun series is so joyless nowadays.
