Sort of get where you're coming from - personally I ship them in a non-sexual way. I think Sherlock is asexual and John is hetrosexual, but they seem to be written like they've been falling in love.
Unfortunately, I don't think TV is progressive enough to feature a romantic non-sexual relationship :/

I see them as romantic-but-not-sexual too! They just seem unhealthily in love, but there isn't really any sexual tension.

I wouldn't mind this, under two conditions: John stops dating, and John and Sherlock actually state they love each other, even if it's just when they're alone in their flat.

And really, if you think about it: Even if they were a "conventional" couple, it's not like they'd show them having sex, anyway; so to some extent, them being in a non-sexual romantic relationship would look the same to the home audience.

This 100%. I really hope they do go about portraying their relationship that way, though, because holy crap does the world ever need it.

Eh, if that relationship was different-sex, I would agree but most same-sex relationships are still often written as non-sexual in general and that was and still is the general problem with queer relationships in international media.

The question really is that the UK is progressive enough to have one of their most beloved icons in a same-sex relationship even said show is an alternative timeline version?

Yeah, like that person above me pointed out having a saqme sex romantic relationship be nonsexual isn't actually progressive, it's the norm...
