Then don't read them if they're not worth their cost. Simple.

I know this isn't a popular opinion in any publishing industry, but as a creator? This is bullshit to me.

Yes, I want to make money. But if the choice is between making money and people having access to my work, I infinitely prefer that as many people as possible read and enjoy my work. Because someone who's never been in contact with my work is definitely never going to buy it, and someone who has pirated it and liked it enough might someday.

Yeah, you're right, this is a popular opinion. It's also bullshit.

When your rent depends on people BUYING your stuff, it makes a big difference. Give your shit away for free if you like, but piracy hurts those who are trying to make a living.

However, piracy is not like the boil on the ass of humanity. It happens and the industries would do well to take their cues from it and try to work it to their advantage. And calling pirates dirty scum who deserve to be prison raped is really not the way to do it.

I completely agree with this. I'm a firm believer in financially supporting the artists you enjoy, but pirating has opened me up to artists, stories, music, etc. that I otherwise would have never even heard of, much less enjoyed.

just playing devil's advocate here, but if they don't read them, then the creators don't get money, which is incidentally the same as pirating. So if they aren't going to spend the money either way...
