It would be incredibly daring and groundbreaking to do this. Aside from truly putting a modern spin on it, people in a homosexual relationship where they don't act stereotypically gay? It's a "does not compute" for 99.9% of TV/movie writers.

But given that Moffat is running the show, I never had a single thought that it would go that way. He's ultra heteronormative, to the point of a lot of backwards thinking. Well, I don't know the man personally, but this is what comes across to me in blazing lights in everything I've watched of his.

This is the only show I've ever watched where the fanfic has eclipsed the show in my mind. Don't get me wrong - I crave new Sherlock like a craving thing, but I've gotten way more of an emotional connection from all the fic. And I don't just mean because fic has porn. This is a strange and new thing for me.
