Oh man, I could not agree with this more. I don't even really ship it, but before I heard that the creators said otherwise, it just seemed kind of obvious to me that they were going to get together, or at least explore John being attracted to Sherlock. There were quite a few bits (especially in the 2nd series) that just didn't make sense to me with any other interpretation. Why even put that stuff in there if they didn't intend to follow through with it at all? It's not funny, it's not cute, it's just kind of dickish and tiresome.

As everybody has said upthread, in canon, Sherlock has never said he's asexual.
