... You know, this is actually kinda true, now that I think about it. I haven't cosplayed in years and I still have a blast at cons/doing other shit.

Both pictures are extremes of their respective 'ways to have fun'. Not to knock the cosplay too much, mostly because it has less chance of death/severe injury/loss of brain function, but you are spending a ton of money on something that has no more value than in that moment and the memories it creates. Like drinking! Except excessive drinking can lead to losing memories, but at least you have the memories of the memories?

...Whatevs.

I would say the skills, knowledge, and experience you gain from creating cosplay, and being under the stress and pressure of trying to making something good in x amount of time extends much farther than "that moment", but that's just me.

True, though half the people I know who cosplayed had someone else make their costumes or paid someone to do them. But in the case of making it yourself, I do agree with that. And when family members make it there is that extra special aspect of having something your mom/grandma made, like in one friend's case.
