Well, hasn't is been said somewhere that this particular interoperation if Sherlock is asexual? Because, if that's the case, I can't see them even trying to go down the path that would need to play out for that the be believable. For starters they'd have to go through both of them getting a handle on being with someone they aren't, physically, attracted to - and finding a way to work around that, that's comfortable for them. And, personally, I can't see them wanting to take the time away from the rest of the stories to do that.

That said, I'm sorry your frustrated anon - but at least the interaction is enjoyable to watch regardless of if they're together.

Nowhere in the show itself has that been said, no.

And, personally, I can't see them wanting to take the time away from the rest of the stories to do that.

I dunno... most of the Holmes stories are short stories, and they're being turned into 90 minute episodes; essentially movie length. They have to add material anyway, why not spend some of that time deepening the relationship between the two leads?

Actually the unaired pilot is pretty much explicit about Sherlock's asexuality, when there is the "date scene":

John: "So... you don't do anything?"
Sherlock: "Everything else is for transport"

Unaired pilot is not canon. Writers make changes to their characters all the time between iterations. The final product is the only one that counts, IMO.

They may not have used the word, but they said he's a virgin and he acknowledged it, and he has said 3 times he's not interested in sex. I think that is the best representation you'll get of an asexual who doesn't believe in titling things.
