I don't know what's going on at US cons, but alcohol/drugs are definitely not happening at the cons I've been to. I'm not saying it'd be "bad" in any way, I just never saw people take anything.

There's usually some pretty wild parties at night if you know where to go. And the recreationist events are full-on bacchanals.
