At this point, I'm mostly assuming that they are in love and are a couple, but John is still denying it and Sherlock doesn't see the point in acknowledging it. The fall-out of Falls will give John the kick up the arse he needs to realise it, then when Sherlock shows up again he'll kiss him, because that will throw him off his stride most...
