An authorActually, screw the generalities: I didn't even know I could write until I started writing fanfiction. Then I only wrote AUs, with no relation to canon. Sure the characters were initially someone else's, but thrown into new situations they showed different aspects of their personalities and grew the way I wanted them to grow.I turned more than one of my fic into originals by changing the names/taking out the accents/changing the family backgrounds. I refuse to feel bad about it, or believe that I somehow tricked my fanfic readers into giving my writing a chance. I'm thankful some liked it enough to follow my irrelevant stories/characters (because I've written purely original fic too), and I'm still sending out copies of my fanfic to any reader who asks for it. Nobody will convince me I did something wrong.
