I understand where you are coming from, OP. I like John/Sherlock pretty much every way possible- platonic friends, romantically but not sexually involved, in a romantic and sexual relationship, etc. I would be okay with the two of them being close friends without any romance and/or sex... But, if that's what's going to happen, I wish the show would knock if off with all of the gay jokes and foreshadowing. It annoys the shipper in me, and it's making use of a homophobic double standard. Like, "We'll use allusions to homosexuality for humor and to draw in viewers, but actually make them gay? Pfff, yeah right!" which is pretty gross and tiresome. Especially because, with the direction the show went this season, it almost doesn't make sense for them *not* to be a couple to me. The only reason that they aren't is because TPTB aren't okay with having the protags in a gay relationship.

tl;dr: I agree.
