is it true that anne rice stopped working with editors or some such after IWTV? i've only read ITWTV and The Vampire Lestat, but it totally looked like no one had taken a closer look at TVL to me.

It was after Queen of the Damned and you can really tell because they become meandering wanks about how great Lestat is and twenty-page rants about the church and state needing to be one, or a description of wallpaper. The change is insane.

Heh, he is totally the type to do that! Boast and make shit up...so that could work. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the things in the books he lied about or exaggerated to hell. (We know when the other characters give a different pov of the same events.) But it feels a bit sad and disappointing from a reader perspective.
