I think their chemistry as friends was pretty awesome - they both knew and supported Picard so well, but in such different ways. Never saw it as more, but it's not totally far-fetched, I guess. Picard's reaction would be interesting, to say the least!

Riker did marry Troi in the last movie though. I know that some people ignore the films, but they are technically canon. ;)

Crusher and Riker will always be BFFs in my head. The one episode where they do get together because Riker had this...alien...in him that was sort of sharing his body because that how their spieces worked was weird. I mean everybody slept with everybody on that ship at some point or another so it was bound to happen, but I could never see them in a long term relationship.

Gaaah I shipped them SO HARD! There was an episode where Crusher had fallen for a Trill. But something happened to his host body and they temporarily put the Trill into Riker and they had this really sexually charged scene together. YUM!

P/C was my first ship, and you never forget your first. But friend!ship the hell out of Riker/Crusher. I think it's one of the biggest missed opportunities of the show that they didn't ever get a caves episode together.

Fifteen years I've been looking for fic where they hang out. (And possibly beam down to a bar somewhere and get smashed while their respective love interests are being their over-analysing introspective selves on the Enterprise.) It's not to be found. I don't think anyone's ever written it. :(

Totally down with the idea of them sexing off some tension with no strings too.

AHHH THIS IS A GOOD SECRET. I ship them too (though definitely not as hard as Riker/Troi or Picard/Crusher), but I'm always terrified to mention it in fandom because people are !!!all about canon!!! and most people I know were just weirded out by The Host. You're not alone, OP! They're one of the most awesome/underrated friends on the show and they had great chemistry.
