That mini series is so damn flawed.

In fact, all the adaptions have been. And as messed up as it was, I still think Kyle's version of Paul is the best portrayal out of all of them--I wish we could have seen the true version of Lynch's film, instead of the producer/studio meddling version that we ended up getting.

I am so damn glad that the mantra has helped you. It has helped me too, really.

But please, please read the books.

Really? Wow, I've never heard anyone say the movie was better than the miniseries before. Out of curiosity, why do you think it was flawed? Personally, I can't stand the movie but adore both miniseries. And I'm a huge fan of the books.

I tried to watch/read it when I was around thirteen too, and found it horrifyingly boring, but those words stayed with me for years afterward until a new friend convinced me to give it another shot. (I liked it far better at 19)

I did the same. I tried at thirteen after I saw the miniseries (and thought I was the coolest 8th grader, carrying that book around), but I found it boring too. I tried again last year, and now I love them.

I read Dune as a teenager after seeing David Lynch's movie, and it was inspirational to me in many ways, the same as the Catcher in the Rye seemed to be for many teens...

I learned so much about so many domains, reading it.

And that mantra was definitely helpful a few times, too.

I finally read the books recently. I tried Dune after I saw that miniseries, but I was in 8th grade so it went over my head a bit; all the politics and such. Finally picked it up again last year and holy crap, amazing.

Dune! I loved both miniseries so much. Children of Dune gets a lot of love, but Dune was just as good IMHO. I wish the had done a version of God Emperor as well.
