There IS a sort of "rapey" athmosphere in the first movie, between Holmes and Blackwood. (especially in the beginning) It's probably the way Blackwood is alway so smug and/or in control, while holmes seems to somehow *know* he is dangerous, and to actually fear him. Blackwood seems very much in control, whereas Holmes comes across as pretty helpless and damaged.
So the movie starts off in a situation you would probably have with an ex-couple, of which one had at some point repeatedly abused the other.

That's not my headcanon or anything, just the dynamics of the characters as they feel to me... I guess that makes it easy - or even compelling - for victims of sexualized violence or abusive relationships to project their experiences into movie Holmes.

Well, frankly, it's been strongly suggested that RDJ himself was raped when he was incarcerated; true or not, it's been difficult for me to get that notion out of my mind when watching either Sherlock or Iron Man, so if it is true, I'm sure it'll inform RDJ's performances for the rest of his life.
