Bad breath, sure, that's natural as anything. Most animals have bad breath.
Tooth rot may have been lower in hunter-gatherer societies, however, since they ate less sugar.

That said, many animals' lifespans are limited by tooth decay in old age, though humans last longer due to cooking and grinding their food (making it softer for those with rotten teeth).

/is not an expert in dental hygiene, but there you go.
