But I'd never want to be like Edward Bloom, at least in reality (the younger fantastical version of him might be pretty fun). To be honest, I fear I'm turning into a female version of him. I've always thought that the conflict he gives to the movie comes from an idea he has that his life should have been more exciting. So even though the end shows that he may have been a part of a circus where he met his wife, and helped save a town, and made a crazy escape during the war with a singing duo, he kept thinking, "No, that isn't enough to have me be remembered. If I embellished some things, then people will remember that."
I think it's sad that he felt the need to blur the line between personal anecdote and fictional story, to the point that he refused to tell his son the truth even on his death bed. Granted, that blurred line is what I love most about the movie, but I don't want to live like that.
