I was referring to the white haired children.

In the comic, the characters are all white. As in, literally white, no pigment of any sort (and the artist is actually very, very good with color so this is not laziness or inability). As discussed above, there has been some controversy over if the characters are or are not meant to have a specified ethnicity, with the author having just recently stated "it doesn't fucking matter, make them what you want" more or less.

However, it is a fact that the boy with the sunglasses glasses has red eyes. So red eyes + white hair = albino!

Though yes, a proper albino would actually be stark white irregardless of ethnic background. Basically I made a silly joke and took to long to explain it here.

Hah, thanks for explaining tho. Appreciated!

So red eyes + white hair = albino!

Nope. Common misconception, but nope. It's way more common for albinos to have very pale blue eyes or even slightly purplish eyes than red. Depends on the type of albinism.

I thought that was albinoid?

Though interesingly, this would cover Roxy and Rose as well then.

Nope. Even true albinos typically have pale eyes, but not red. Depends on the person's genotype and what kind of albinism they exhibit (OCA1-4 vs. OA).

All the people with white hair in that picture have dark skin along with white hair, though. Which is not really consistent with albinism at all. If you're missing enough melanin to turn your hair white, your skin isn't going to look like you just stepped off a tanning bed.

I was referring to the actual characters as depicted in the comic with that comment though, albiet sarcastically.

They are drawn like this, literally white.

Which, as this whole thing stated, is actually meant to be nondescript but with Daves red eyes also gives the theory that's he's albino instead.

Yeah but does anyone who is not an albino have red irises?

The fact that Dave always wears sunglasses is itself another clue, a lot of albinos need sunglasses all the time to protect their eyes from UV because there is no pigment in them. A lot of albinos also have low vision and need glasses to correct it, so.

[identity profile] insanenoodlyguy.livejournal.com 2012-01-26 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's more a product of horrible upbringing though. Whatever kid ended up with Bro was gonna be wearing shades.

Lucky for Dave that he has the same prescription as Ben Stiller.

Being albino means you literally have no pigment, skin color is a pigment. Regardless of race, all albinos have white skin.

I know a kid who is 'black' but he's albino. His skin is definitely darker than the average white person's, when I first saw him I thought he had a mix of white, mexican, and african genes or something. I also feel bad for him because he looks different from the rest of his family, he feels like an outsider, and is always trying to overcompensate for that ):
