...I really don't get why we have to like one or the other. They're both female artists, they both have a reputation for outlandish stagewear, but that's where the similarities end. I hate that the media has to compare them constantly, all those "Who's weirder?" articles. Bleh.

I have my favorites for various reasons, but I feel no need to compare them or contrast them. I love all my weird ladies.

Hey, so does GaGa. Except at least GaGa is creative with it and gets in touch with a weirdness. Everyone is weird in some way or form, so I think this "embracing your strange" stuff is hilarious.

You can still be creative with someone else's material, you know. And I only say this as someone who has never looked at GaGa as everyone's ripoff. I've always viewed her as one big homage. She never claimed anything she does or wears to be purely hers.

That said, I don't buy that Gaga is the only truly creative pop star out there atm. Katy, Nicki, and Ke$ha are just as creative.

I like how she dresses, but it's pretty silly to compare her to other funky dressers -- namely Gaga, Katy Perry, Björk, Ke$ha, Faye Wong, Miss Kier, Grace Jones and Cher. I just love how alien it looks. They all rock their style IMO.

FWIW, I love that all the pop starlets are making bold, outrageous choices with their wardrobe/image. Katy Perry and Nicki look like bits of hard candy with their technicolor ensembles. I also like how Gaga pushes the boundaries of conventional sexiness and turns it into something that goes beyond the Male Gaze into something bizarre/political/asexual.

IA. I like both of their music on separate levels, but both their 'weirdness' is ingenuine. They may have started out genuinely quirky but they both got so absorbed in the concept of image that now they're just obsessed with topping with whatever they did before.

I feel like we're talking apples and oranges, here. Nicki is young and hot, in a profession where "business casual" can reasonably mean pastel and neon colored clothes with attachable parts. If I was in her position, I'd take advantage of the opportunity to dress like she does- light and fun and a little bit wild- too. Hell, if I could get away wearing some the things she does to work, I would.

Lady Gaga, in my opinion, is all image. The way she dresses and acts is apart of her mission statement, as an artist. She never seems light or fun to me, just put upon, like everything is a mask she wears to make a point. It didn't seem that way at first, but that's all I get from her these days.
