this read like one of those dull non-secrets to me until i realized that admitting to have enjoyed the da vinci code, book OR movie, IS kind of secret-worthy.

Man, I make NO secret as to the fact that I LOVE all the Robert Langdon books. :P They're fun and if you don't take them seriously (especially any "history" in the books) they are enjoyable, if formulaic.

[identity profile] otakugal15.livejournal.com 2012-01-28 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Though Angels and Demons was a more superior film to The Da Vinci Code. >> But that's my opinion.

[identity profile] sparklywalls.livejournal.com 2012-01-28 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
No I think I agree with you. And I couldn't even finish the book because I found it too similar to The Da Vinci Code. I suppose some people would say "duh" but I genuinely found it too frustrating so I put it down. Was surprised I enjoyed the film seeing as I found the film of Da Vinci a bit of a mess.

Agreed. And I think the book would have been better if it weren't for the Pope+Nun+insemination thing. That ruined the whole thing for me.

And Priest!Ewan McGreggor was too hot for words. That helped.

Agreed! AnD was a fun movie with some decent drama and gorgeous music (not to mention Ewan McGregor and the fabulous assassin dude). The dVC tried too hard (obvious props for sir Ian).

ITA. Her characterization is the reason I really can't watch the movie. She was amazing in the book, so kick-ass and able to not only keep up but surpass Langdon. Why TPTB decided to de-awesome her is something I will never understand.

Idk how anyone could enjoy DaVinci Code. It's worse than Twilight IMO, and Twilight is so boring to begin with.

[identity profile] intrigueing.livejournal.com 2012-01-28 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I enjoyed the Da Vinci code because I saw that South Park episode "Fantastic Easter Special", before I read it, so for the entire book I was like "lol lol it's the Hair Club for Men!" and other related shit. So it just came off as super-cracky and funny for me even though the prose was painful to read.

[identity profile] darknyss.livejournal.com 2012-01-28 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I enjoyed the book for the popcorn that it was, but I've never seen an audience more bored at a movie than during the Da Vinci Code.

[identity profile] rosehiptea.livejournal.com 2012-01-29 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't read the book, but when I saw the movie there was a guy talking on his cell phone for about ten minutes close to the end. Which normally would have pissed me off but my eyes were so glazed over with boredom by then I didn't even care.

(So many honestly talented actors, such a lousy film IMO.)

"(So many honestly talented actors, such a lousy film IMO.)"

True, I'll see anything with Jean Reno in it, but this one was a snoozefest. On top of that it was unintentionally funny for a lot of the european (Belgium/French) audience I saw it with. The Bois de Boulogne line had the whole theater in stitches.

[identity profile] rosehiptea.livejournal.com 2012-01-29 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that was a real waste of Jean Reno and really just about everybody else in it has had much better movies.

I still can't get over the part where they had hours to save the world and decided to take a bus to the library.

I got a numb bum watching Da Vinci Code in the cinema.

[identity profile] broadwaybabe11.livejournal.com 2012-01-30 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
The book entertained me so much, the movie though.. ugh

Is she the character who was scarred for life because she caught her uncle
*spoiler spoiler spoiler!!*

doing the 'great rite' with some other woman?

Gods, i hated that book. My sister thought it was awesome. Blech.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-29 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
ahahahahaha, I forgot about that part. weren't they all wearing masks and having an orgy or something? oh man.

Something, but it was OMGsoterrible!! that she could barely speak of it like a decade or so later and when they *finally* revealed that that was the big 'secret' i was just...boggled.

[identity profile] lovelycudy.livejournal.com 2012-01-29 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
She was a boring character to begin with. Then again, Brown's books are filled with crappy characters, so.

[identity profile] yui-hime.livejournal.com 2012-01-29 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not her fault the police detectives couldn't figure out a damn Fibonacci sequence in the book and had to call a cryptology expert... Chalk another one up to "Dan Brown doesn't know his subject material".
